Students had a creative day with clay when ceramicist Jon Barrett-Danes came to spend a day in the Art Studio. Jon creates individually made ceramic animal-based sculptures, which are full of character and humour.

Touching the sculptures

He brought along some of his fabulous pieces, and the students were able to touch them and ask Jon questions about inspiration and his work. He also brought with him some moulds he has made using everyday objects such as cabbages and cauliflowers, which produce wonderful textures in the clay.

Collage - different textures

Sixth formers Luke, Ada and Amy worked all day on their pieces – Luke creating an imaginative half egg/half bird, Amy working with the moulds to create textured vases and Ada made three mice with a textured hillock.

Years 10 and 11 spent their lessons experimenting with the clay and using the moulds to create interesting shapes and textures.
