Family Law Solicitor Anita Hennessey dropped into New College Worcester this week to give an update on her training for the London Marathon this May.

The Solicitor, who has been with the Worcester branch of Harrison Clark Rickerbys for over 10 years, will be running the London Marathon for the first time, hoping to raise over £2,000 for NCW. During her visit Anita met Principal Mardy Smith and spent time chatting with Head Girl Amy, who is also a keen runner.

“I have visited New College Worcester a few times to talk to the students about a career in Law and have been really inspired by them” she said. “When the opportunity arose to run the marathon for the College I was keen to take on the challenge. It’s going to be hard work, but a large part of it is the mental challenge and if I overcome that, and stick to the training schedule, I know I can do it”.

Anita’s training schedule to date has seen her to progress from her regular 5-mile runs and she is regularly running over 10 miles with her running club and training partner. She hopes to complete a 24-mile training run before the big day. Always active, Anita grew up doing ballet and mixed martial arts, and is a former member of the British team for Jujitsu, but this will be the greatest running challenge she has undertaken.

Fundraising Manager for NCW, Anne Priestley, said, “We were delighted to be offered a place in the London marathon 2016 – we have been trying for 10 years to get a place and this is the first time we have been accepted. We are very grateful to Anita for running on our behalf, she is putting so much effort into the training, which is very time consuming.”

Students from New College Worcester will be there on the day to cheer Anita on to the finish line.
