News > My Trip to Rome - by Fritz

This month I was lucky enough to visit the Italian capital Rome with students from Worcester Sixth Form College.
At the initial meeting and during the journey, I was able to get to know the other students on the trip, to find out about their interests in different areas such as music, sports, TV and so forth.
We flew from Bristol and then picked up a coach from the airport to the centre of Rome, after which we settled into our rooms and went for dinner in a restaurant nearby. There was a wide variety of meals to choose from, including pasta and pizzas, with some delicious desserts to follow!
During the trip, we visited the Vatican on the Friday, as well as climbing the Castel Sant Angelo to have a lovely view over the city. In the Vatican, which was enormous, we saw the various paintings of Michelangelo such as the famous statue of the Virgin holding Jesus, called la Pietà. We also visited the Spanish Steps. On the Saturday, we visited the Coliseum, and had a glimpse into Roman history, particularly in relation to the gladiatorial games and all the people (500,000) and animals (one million) who lost their lives there. We even walked on roads believed to have once been part of the city itself and were walked on by emperors such as Julius Caesar and Nero.
Later on, we visited the Trevi Fountain. Tradition dictates that you throw a coin into the fountain over your shoulder so as to return to Rome one day. On the final day, we visited a museum and, wearing special gloves, I was privileged to be able to touch the world-famous statue of the she-wolf with Romulus and Remus, the two founders of Rome.
I would definitely like to go back to Rome in future, as I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was able to make friends, many of whom I now chat with on Facebook.
