The chapel and LRC at New College Worcester played host to fierce, roaring Pirates, Cowardly Policeman and whimsical daughters this term.

Pirates of Penzance on stage

They were part of the school's production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic, comic, operatic musical, ‘The Pirates of Penzance’, which played on the Thursday and Friday after a very successful, all day dress rehearsal the day before.

The production was directed by Ms Jones, Head of Drama and Musical Director, Mrs Christie, Head of Music. The cast were also helped by Mr Painter, the Musical Theatre teacher in more ways than one, as he had to step in to the lead role when our Frederick was stricken with a bug!

This pirate themed musical inspired a rocky cove set, featuring swords and treasure chests! The three main groups of characters in the play – Pirates, Policemen and daughters expertly played out their stories in front of packed out audiences. The incredibly strong cast did really well and rehearsed solidly for five months.

The lead actors voices were superb. Carys and Grace did a wonderful job in their final roles on the New College stage and Tobias and Chelsea are certainly talents to watch. Staff and parents agreed it was a fantastic show and we are all incredibly proud of the students and their efforts!
