Top of the League

It has been an eventful league in the world of VI cricket for 2019!

NCW student Tom has been playing with Old Elizabethans Worcestershire (OE), a local VI cricket team, for this season and has ignited a real passion for the game.

Training with OE on a regular basis, Tom also runs the NCW cricket team!

After a number of gruelling games, The Old Elizabethans achieved a sensational change in fortune to claim the 2019 Blind Cricket England and Wales Midland Regional League title over the summer.

Thrilled at the outcome, student Tom said: “The OE cricket team consists of players from Worcester and Hereford – we have never won the league before or even come close, however this year we won every game we played, even against RNC!”

A great victory, and the first trophy was all the more remarkable for the fact that prior to the 2019 season, the OE team had lost 11 of their 14 competitive matches – what a comeback!

This season was also played against the MCC Touring Team, Antolin, The Fossils Cricket Team and Maddresfield CC.

VI Cricket is a very inclusive sport in which The Old Elizabethans play games against sighted teams who wear sim specs – glasses which replicate different sight loss conditions.
