News > Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan, visits NCW

Nicky Morgan, the Education Secretary, paid a visit to New College Worcester on Friday along with Robin Walker MP, and Lord Faulkner of Worcester, who is a Patron of the College.

Ms Morgan spent time with Principal Mardy Smith and Vice Principal Chris Stonehouse before touring the School, meeting students and observing some lessons.

The visit was a great opportunity for Ms Morgan to observe some of the specialist techniques and resources used for teaching those with a visual impairment. She learnt that the College teaches the national curriculum at GCSE and A level, as well as a selection of BTEC and vocational courses - and that each student has a programme of learning that is tailored to their level and methods of learning and an extended curriculum also includes Mobility Skills, Independent Living Skills and Braille.

Mardy Smith, Principal of New College Worcester said “We are very honoured to have Nicky Morgan visit the College, and it has given us a real opportunity to showcase what we do here, helping each student achieve their utmost potential”.

The Education Secretary observed a Music Lesson, a Science Lesson and a Lesson in Independent Living Skills before enjoying tea and cake with the Senior Leadership Team and a group of students.
