The School Games is a national youth and junior multi-sport event with representatives taking part from all corners of the UK.

The event consisted of three days road racing with five races, a street sprint, circuit race, two time trials and a long course road race. I had met my partner, Ross Marriet, for the first time, the day before the races began, so it was only an hour before our first race that we had the chance to ride on the tandem together for the first time. This made the first few races difficult, but I think we managed to improve as we got used to each other on the bike over the three days.

The games were very tiring with 5 am starts, not returning until late into the evening. The day mainly consisted of preparing for races, and the races themselves. In the evening Sheffield University campus was taken over by 1600 athletes from various sports and I had the opportunity to meet many new people and had talks from various sports men and women such as Hannah Cockroft, a wheelchair athlete who achieved two Paralympic gold medals at the London games last year.

I had a great time at Sheffield and came away with a silver medal and four bronze medals, and I hope to continue and take part again next year.
