Paris Conference

A group Business Studies and Politics students travelled to Paris to take part in a conference that focused on politics in Britain and Europe. The first day was spent listening to some inspirational speakers with around eight hundred other students from the UK.

Speakers included Shami Chakrabati, the Director of Liberty, discussing the importance of protections for Human Rights. She defended the Human Rights Act and the European Court of Human Rights in the face of tough questioning from students in the hall and created considerable discussion amongst our students.

The next speaker was Evan Davis, the economist and journalist who explained the evolution of the current economic crisis in the Eurozone. Students were particularly inspired by a talk from Wayne Hemmingway, a leading British designer, who explained how he started his fashion company 'Red or Dead' and how important is was to seek opportunities and to take risks.

As well as attending the Conference, students were able to see some of Paris including a boat trip on the Seine. A particular highlight was going up the Arc de Triomphe in the evening and seeing the lights around Paris which all made for an exhausting but thought-provoking three-day trip.
