As part of National Poetry Day, students from NCW were invited to BBC Hereford and Worcester Radio to share their inspiring poems.

Following a trip to Hartlebury Castle where students worked with Worcestershire Poet Laurette, Maggie Doyle, young people from NCW had the opportunity to share their own poems on local radio station, BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Students Martha, Paige and Tobias were filled with confidence as they were interviewed in turn by Radio Presenter Tammie Gooding, and asked to read aloud their beautifully creative writing inspired by the history and atmosphere of Worcestershire’s Hartlebury Castle.

Describing the experience, Paige said: “We were able to explore the history of the castle; the stories of the bishops, an old-fashioned schoolroom and artefacts such as carriages and household appliances from the Victorian era.

The opportunity to be aired on the local radio was incredibly exciting, and gave us all a chance to understand how the radio works.”

As part of National Poetry Day, students have also created a ‘Poet-Tree’ which stands proud within the college grounds, holding short poems and creative writing.

Below is a link to an extract of the radio programme featuring our students and their poetry, if you would like to listen!
