PO3, SCP32-35, £36,372 – £39,571

Hours:   
Full time – Annualised hours, equivalent to 45 hours per term time week, with extra hours as required for reasonable execution of duties. On call 1 night per week, and every third weekend.

Purpose of the Job:

The Head of Care has responsibility for leading all elements of residential care at NCW, and the role is both strategic and operational.  You will ensure that all students are well cared for and supported by our team of trained Care staff, following the guidelines laid down by current legalisation.

Main Tasks:

  • Strategic Leadership of Care
    • To provide the strategic development for Residential Care, aiming to lead the College to ‘Outstanding’ in the annual Ofsted Care inspections.
    • To ensure the College gives the highest standard of care across the residential provision.
    • To ensure the residential provision has a vibrant, enjoyable and positive ethos and provides a positive experience for all students.
    • To help develop and implement College policies and strategic improvements in Care, ensuring a consistent approach across the different residencies.
    • To take a lead role in Safeguarding.
    • To provide an interesting and motivating Waking Day Curriculum to promote the students’ independent living skills and social skills and to promote self-esteem and self-confidence.
    • To work collaboratively with Education Staff within the College and ensure effective liaison between Residential Care Staff and the Education Team.
    • To attend Governors meetings and be the lead officer on the Residential Care and Safeguarding Committee.
    • To liaise with parents and other professionals about the care students receive.
    • To meet once a term with the College Health and Safety Committee
    • To undertake sleep-in duties if circumstances require it.
  • Supervision of staff
    • To supervise and line manage the senior Care Staff, including performance management.
    • To lead Care meetings.
    • Ensure all staff within the Care Team have annual performance management reviews and regular supervision, together with appropriate meetings.
    • To be responsible for the recruitment and induction of Care Staff.
    • To provide advice and support to Care Staff.
  • Administration and Record Keeping
    • To ensure all documentation is kept in accordance with the National Minimum Care Standards, other current legalisation, and College requirements.
    • To organise staffing rotas and ensure the residential units are adequately staffed and that staffing is organised to be of maximum benefit to students.
    • To ensure effective budgetary management of all Care budgets.
    • To ensure all Legal and Health and Safety requirements are met.
    • Ensure that all medications, including controlled drugs are administered, recorded and maintained at all times.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Have clear understanding of the application of the National Minimum Care Standards.
    • Work with senior Care staff to implement and monitor quality systems.
    • To quality assure the work of the care team through regular review, evaluation and monitoring.
    • Train Senior Care Staff to monitor the work of their team.
  • Professional Development
    • To understand the training needs of all Care Staff and ensure staff attend training.
    • To ensure that arrangements are in place for Care Staff to work towards and achieve the Level 3 qualification in Care (and beyond) and to ensure the continuing professional development of all staff in line with regulatory requirements and best practice.
