News > Visiting Artist

Frans' interest in art started with pictures, often cut from magazines, that his mother pinned up around his home. He grew The Hague and etchings of Rembrandt and The Hague School were around which made him sneak into the etching room as soon as he got to Art College! After qualifying as an Art teacher and doing military service in Holland, Frans left for Ireland and eventually ended up in Britain, where he joined the Royal Society of Painter-Print makers. He is now also a member of the British Society of Master Glass Painters.

Frans' work reflects his interest in the human form and human relationships. Some pieces are based on poems and literature; some are directly from observation and imagination but most tell a story.

Frans worked with Finlay, Max and Charlotte on creating their own etchings, going through the different stages to produce very distinct pieces of art.

Our thanks go to Frans and also the Bransford Trust, which supports the NCW Visiting Artist Scheme - allowing students who are blind and partially sighted to access and experience different techniques and learn from a number of inspirational professionals.
