Students and staff from NCW enjoyed a truly Super Trouper experience on their recent visit to London to see the West End production of Mamma Mia! — a trip brilliantly planned and co‑organised by Year 12 student Zac.

The group set off bright and early, with Mrs Price driving the NCW minibus full of excited travellers to Hillingdon Tube Station. Thanks to Zac’s meticulous planning, the journey into central London ran smoothly and the group arrived in Covent Garden in time for refreshments and delicious crepes before walking to the Novello Theatre.

A Fantastic Touch Tour Experience

Before the performance, students were welcomed onto the stage for a special Touch Tour and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Novello Theatre staff, who provided exceptional service from start to finish. Their welcoming approach, patience and enthusiasm helped make the experience both accessible and magical.

The group explored the set and handled a range of props, from feather boas and groovy sunglasses to sparkling rhinestone microphones. Several cast members also joined the tour, giving students the chance to ask questions and learn more about the show.

We are especially grateful to the cast for wearing a variety of costumes from across the entire production—not just their opening outfits. From glittering 70s jumpsuits with bell‑bottom flares to the bold cerise wedding‑scene ensemble topped with a dramatic feathered hat and even wetsuits complete with flippers and snorkels, students were able to experience the full visual flavour of Mamma Mia! The opportunity to touch the costumes and speak with the performers was a memorable highlight for many.

A Feel‑Good Show to Remember

The group then took their seats in the stalls for the performance, which proved to be a high‑energy, feel‑good celebration of ABBA’s greatest hits. The atmosphere was electric, the cast outstanding and the finale had many of our staff and students up on their feet, singing along with huge smiles. It even moved one member of staff, Ali, to happy tears!

A Smooth Journey Home

After the show, Staff navigated the group back through London to Embankment Station, and from there on the Tube to Hillingdon, before driving everyone safely back to college. Eight happy—and rather sleepy—students returned to NCW with memories that will last a long time.

A Final Thank You

There’s only one thing left to say…Mamma Mia, THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC!

And of course, a huge thank‑you to Zac for organising such a brilliant trip.

“What an amazing day! The Touch Tour was one of the best I’ve had, and meeting the cast was a major highlight. The whole day ran so smoothly. Here’s to the next NCW theatre extravaganza.”
