New College Worcester was delighted to welcome Worcester Warriors Foundation CEO Carol Hart and Matt Cowdrey to school this week, along with a very special guest – the Elior Championship Rugby Trophy.
NCW has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Worcester Warriors Foundation, whose coaches regularly visit the school to deliver inclusive rugby sessions for our students. Through their support, students can enjoy and access the sport regardless of their level of vision impairment, helping to build confidence, teamwork and a love of physical activity.
The entire NCW community was thrilled when Worcester Warriors defeated Bedford Blues 27–14 on 31 May to secure the Elior Championship title. We were even more excited when the Foundation offered to bring the trophy into school, giving students the opportunity to see and explore the cup for themselves.
During lunchtime, students gathered to learn more about the trophy and celebrate the Warriors’ achievement. As always, there was plenty of enthusiasm, and a few members of staff were spotted posing proudly with the silverware as though they had won it themselves! Needless to say, the success belongs entirely to the hard-working players, coaches and staff at Worcester Warriors.
For many of our students, having the opportunity to get up close to such an important sporting trophy was a memorable experience and helped bring the excitement of professional rugby to life.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Worcester Warriors Foundation for their continued support of the NCW community. Their commitment to inclusive sport provides invaluable opportunities for our students, and we are grateful that they allowed us to share in this special moment and become a small part of the trophy’s history.
Congratulations once again to Worcester Warriors on their Championship victory, and thank you for inspiring the next generation of players and supporters.
