Students at New College Worcester (NCW) are celebrating another successful Results Day, with young people achieving a range of qualifications and taking exciting next steps towards their futures. Today marks the culmination of years of hard work, determination and resilience, and we are incredibly proud of everything our students have accomplished.
As a specialist residential school and college for blind and vision impaired young people, NCW is committed to ensuring that sight loss is never a barrier to education, ambition or future success. Through our specialist vision impairment curriculum, students receive the tailored support, specialist teaching and independence skills they need to access learning on an equal footing and achieve their full potential.
Students at NCW follow The Curriculum Framework for Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (CFVI), which is designed to equip young people with the specialist skills, knowledge and confidence needed to thrive both in education and later life. Alongside their academic studies, students develop independence, mobility, access technology, self-advocacy and employability skills, helping them to prepare for adulthood and successfully navigate life beyond NCW.
As our students move on to university, further education and employment, they do so with the confidence to advocate for their needs, access appropriate support and pursue their ambitions with independence and determination.
This year’s results reflect the determination, resilience and hard work of our students, who have achieved success across a range of A Levels, BTECs, vocational qualifications and enrichment programmes.
Across the cohort, students achieved a number of positive outcomes, demonstrating the hard work, perseverance and resilience they have shown throughout their studies. From academic success in A Levels and BTECs to achievements in vocational and practical qualifications, students have continued to prove that vision impairment need not be a barrier to reaching their goals and pursuing their ambitions.
Students celebrated achievements in subjects including Psychology, English, Politics, History, Drama, Film Studies, Biology and Environmental Studies, alongside practical and vocational qualifications such as Home Cooking Skills, Food Science and Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs).
The results demonstrate the breadth of opportunities available to blind and vision impaired young people when they are provided with the specialist support, accessible learning resources and high expectations they deserve.
Our leavers are now looking ahead to a range of exciting opportunities. All students have secured places at their first-choice universities and will soon begin the next chapter of their educational journeys. Others will continue their studies at local further education colleges and specialist colleges, pursuing qualifications and courses that align with their ambitions and career aspirations.
Some students are staying on at NCW for sixth form, where they will continue to develop their academic knowledge, confidence, independence and readiness for adulthood within a specialist and supportive environment.
The results are a testament not only to the dedication of our students, but also to the expertise and commitment of NCW staff, who work tirelessly to ensure every young person receives the education they deserve without unnecessary barriers standing in their way.
