NCW Students Celebrate Outstanding GCSE and Vocational Results

There were smiles all around at New College Worcester (NCW) this morning as students celebrated an excellent set of GCSE and vocational qualification results.

As a specialist school and college for children and young people with a vision impairment, NCW provides a tailored education that combines academic excellence with specialist support, helping students to develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to succeed. Today’s results demonstrate the impact of that specialist education, alongside the hard work, determination and resilience shown by students throughout the year.

Among the many achievements celebrated today:

  • Both GCSE Music students achieved Grade 9, the highest possible grade, including one student who completed the qualification a year early while in Year 10.
  • GCSE French students achieved grades ranging from 6 to 8.
  • History GCSE results were outstanding, including Grades 8 and 9.
  • English GCSE students achieved grades of up to Grade 8.
  • Science GCSE students achieved grades of up to Grade 9, with students exceeding their targets across the board.
  • Maths GCSE students achieved positive results, with higher-tier students attaining up to Grade 6.
  • All Year 11 students passed their BTEC Home Cooking Skills qualification.
  • Both students studying BTEC Sport successfully achieved a pass.
  • All students who sat Braille examinations achieved a pass.
  • All Year 10 students taking FCSE French and FCSE German achieved Merit or Distinction grades.
  • All students achieved their predicted grades or exceeded them.

For many students, today’s celebrations mark the next stage of their journey with NCW rather than the end of it. A number of students will now progress into the college’s sixth form, where they will continue studying subjects they are passionate about while preparing for their future pathways. Through a combination of academic learning, specialist support and independence training, students are equipped with the skills and confidence they need to achieve their ambitions beyond education.

Staff and families joined students in celebrating their success, recognising not only the results achieved but also the personal growth, resilience and determination demonstrated throughout their studies. We would like to extend a special thank you to the families and carers who have supported our students every step of the way. Their encouragement, guidance and belief in our young people have played a vital role in helping them achieve their goals. We would also like to recognise the dedication of NCW’s teaching and support staff, whose expertise, commitment and care help ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Natalie sits at a desk using a laptop, with earphones connected and her hands resting on the keyboard. Behind her is a digital piano, storage units with purple fabric drawers, and a noticeboard displaying photographs, certificates and mementos. The room has pink walls and the underside of a bunk bed is visible above the desk.

Natalie achieved incredible grades across the board!

A mug of tea sits on the table beside the plate. The person is making hand gestures towards the camera. Other diners, tables and chairs can be seen in the restaurant background, and a sign reading “The Yacht Club” is visible on the wall. Provide your feedback on BizChat Sources

A huge well done to Liv, who smashed her GCSE Food and Nutrition exam with a fantastic Grade 6!
"We are incredibly proud of our students and everything they have achieved. These excellent results are a testament to their hard work, determination and ambition, supported by the dedication of our staff, families and the specialist education they have received at NCW. Seeing every student achieve or exceed their predicted grades is a wonderful reflection of their commitment and perseverance. I would also like to thank our families and carers for their unwavering support, and our staff for their commitment to helping every student reach their full potential. For many of our students, we are delighted that their journey with NCW will continue as they move into sixth form and have the opportunity to build on today's success by continuing with the subjects they love. We look forward to supporting them as they take the next steps towards their future goals."

"Students join New College Worcester with distinct disadvantages compared to their sighted peers. They do not have the same incidental learning opportunities as mainstream students and have often experienced reduced timetables to accommodate additional lessons such as braille, mobility and independent living skills. At NCW, these essential skills are fully integrated into the curriculum, meaning students receive the specialist support they need without losing valuable curriculum time. We are immensely proud of our students, as the progress they make from the moment they join us is nothing short of incredible. The value we add to each student's education and development is something that makes NCW unique. A huge thank you and congratulations to all our wonderful students, staff and families whose hard work and dedication have contributed to these fantastic achievements."
