Inspiring, nurturing and empowering young people with a vision impairment.

Volunteer

We’re incredibly thankful for the support of our amazing volunteers. Their generous gift of time and enthusiasm helps us create an even richer experience for our students who are blind or vision impaired.

We welcome applications from anyone with a few hours to spare – whether you’re a parent looking to get more involved, someone retired and seeking a rewarding way to spend the day.

We have opportunities for volunteers both locally and from further afield, depending on the role—so don’t hesitate to get in touch, wherever you’re based!

There are lots of ways you can get involved, including:

In the classroom

From time to time, we need extra support in the classroom—and volunteers can make a real difference. In the past, we’ve been fortunate to have volunteers helping in Welsh conversation and Russian lessons! There are also opportunities to support students with homework, coursework, and reading. If you enjoy working with young people and have skills or interests you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you.

In our Youth Club

The NCW Youth Club is a fantastic space for students to enjoy in the evenings and at weekends. It’s packed with fun activities, including a pool table, darts, crafts and the ever-popular ‘Snack Shack’. Volunteering in the Youth Club is a brilliant opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience working with young people—whether you’re helping run activities, chatting with students, or simply joining in the fun!

Collection tins

Our fundraising team is working to grow our network of collection tins, and we’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help us make it happen! You’ll be visiting local shops, cafés, pubs and other businesses – both to maintain existing tins and help place new ones. It’s a simple but vital role: collecting full tins, replacing them with empties, and building positive relationships with the people who kindly host them. Every tin helps raise awareness and much-needed funds, so if you enjoy getting out and about and chatting to local businesses, we’d love to hear from you!
