Celebrating 80 Years of Peace: Year 8 Student Zaki Raises Funds for the Royal British Legion

Earlier this term, to mark 80 years since VE Day, Year 8 student Zaki took it upon himself to arrange and host a cake sale at NCW in support of the Royal British Legion. The event was a resounding success, bringing students and staff together to enjoy a delicious selection of cakes while raising funds for a meaningful cause.

Zaki organised the entire event with great enthusiasm and our marvellous catering team lent their support by donating some of the cakes. The cake stall, decorated proudly with Union Jack flags, attracted a constant stream of eager customers and helped create a vibrant atmosphere.

This initiative was more than just a cake sale. It was an opportunity for the school community to reflect on 80 years of peace, something students and staff had been exploring in PHSE and lessons. Zaki, a passionate supporter of the Royal British Legion, proudly wears his collection of poppy badges on his school blazer—a visible symbol of his dedication.

Catering Assistant Karen was so impressed by Zaki’s initiative and commitment that she informed her local branch of the Royal British Legion in Worcester. Touched by his efforts, Karen presented Zaki with a special badge from the Legion in recognition of his hard work and passion.

The story didn’t end there. Bill Davison, Chair of the Royal British Legion in Worcester, personally reached out to thank Zaki. He and his wife were invited to NCW for a weekday lunch, where they had the chance to chat with Zaki about the Royal British Legion and life at NCW. It was a memorable moment for Zaki, who relished the opportunity to meet new people and share his passion.

Well done, Zaki — a fantastic effort and a shining example of compassion, leadership and community spirit.
