Principal, Nic Ross
Nicki Ross Principal
Nicki has been the Principal at NCW since 2016.  She recognises it as a very special place for young people with a vision impairment and that gaining a place at the College can be transformational.  Nicki is committed to ensuring all young people who attend NCW are given every opportunity to excel. 

Prior to working at NCW, Nicki worked for 27 years in three Gloucestershire schools as a PE teacher, Deputy Head and Headteacher. When not at work, Nicki enjoys following a premiership football team, reading and sport.
Strategic Lead - VI Education Victoria Ward
Victoria Ward Strategic Lead - VI Education
Victoria joined NCW in 2000, initially as Director of Music, where she developed an expertise for Music Braille and introduced Music Technology to the curriculum. She remains committed to ensuring that students are taught the skills that they need to become independent learners. Victoria leads on VI Education, a role which encompasses continuing professional development of staff; ensuring that every student has equitable access to the whole curriculum including the specialist VI curriculum and that students are fully prepared for life after College and the world of work.
Strategic Lead - Student Progress, Fiona Madden
Fiona Madden Strategic Lead – Student Progress
Fiona was delighted to have joined the team at NCW in September 2019 as lead for student progress and feels strongly that every young person has the right to the best education and opportunities possible. Prior to that she worked for over 30 years in Gloucestershire schools in a range of roles, including Head of Expressive Arts, Interventions Manager and Deputy Head. When not at work, Fiona enjoys travel and anything to do with the theatre, particularly musicals with ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Matilda’ being favourites.
Paul Marnell, Designated Safeguarding Lead
Paul Marnell Strategic Lead - Student Wellbeing
Paul joined NCW in September 2021 as Strategic Lead for Student Wellbeing. Paul finds this a really interesting role as it includes being responsible for student wellbeing and safeguarding across the residential care setting and the college day, as well as having responsibility for residential care, health and activities. Before joining NCW Paul spent twenty years in primary education in a variety of roles including Class Teacher, ICT Lead, Assistant Head and Headteacher. When not at work, Paul enjoys keeping up-to-date with news and current affairs, travelling and going to the gym for exercise and relaxation.
Assistant Principal, Business & Finance, Louise Pratt
Louise Pratt Strategic Lead Business and Finance
Louise joined NCW in 2018, having spent the previous 20 years working in industry and the charity sector. Her remit at NCW includes overseeing HR, Administration, Premises, Marketing, Fundraising and Health and Safety. This is Louise’s first role in an education setting and she is delighted to be part of the future of NCW as it faces new challenges and opportunities. Louise loves getting to know the students and is often seen keeping order in the dining room and getting involved with activities all over school.

Staff Governor, Karen Holyoak
Mrs Karen Holyoak Head of Key Stage 3, 4 & 5
Karen qualified as a teacher in 1994 working initially in Further and Adult Education. She soon realised that she wanted to work with young people and made the transition to working in secondary schools taking on alternative provision and pastoral roles. She joined NCW in 2015 as the Health and Social Care teacher and gained her QTVI qualification and an MEd in the process. She is currently the Head of Key Stages 3 and 4 and the Sixth Form.
Non-teaching Staff Governor, Tracey Smith
Tracey Smith Liasion Coordinator
Tracey has worked at NCW for 20 years. In her role as Liaison Co-ordinator she works closely with the Marketing team to show potential parents and students what life is like at NCW on a day to day basis. She works with prospective families to plan and organise an assessment for their child and is the point of contact for the families whilst they navigate the funding process. Tracey’s liaison role continues during the induction phase whilst the new student settles into NCW. Tracey is also the Staff Governor
