A large part of the NCW offer is to provide students with opportunities to be involved in many activities outside the classroom which will enrich their learning experience, help with integration in to the community and develop crucial life skills for adulthood.
With a dedicated and qualified Activities Team, a full and varied programme of activities are on offer for students both on weekdays and at weekends. It is important for our students to feel included, and have ample opportunity to try activities that their sighted peers are also doing.
These can range from elite sports such as skiing, surfing and residential camps, to tandem riding, rifle shooting and arts and crafts.
Our outstanding sports facilities include a football pitch, the Fit4Purpose multi-gym, a 23 metre indoor swimming pool and a fully equipped sports hall. These facilities allow our students to participate in sports and activities on campus, as well as have the option to get out in to the community and become part of groups such as drama and sports clubs.
Our programme of activities also help students in building their self-esteem, resilience and a can-do attitude – crucial skills for young people heading toward adulthood and a life beyond NCW.
Adventure, adrenaline and achievement...
For students who are thrill seekers and love a challenge, there are plenty of adventures to discover with our Activities Team!
Experience residential camps in the wild, where students will work on team building exercises, push themselves on challenging activities like rock climbing and swimming in the sea or develop new skills such as bushcraft.
Being away from campus and doing new and sometimes difficult (and cold!) activities can be really rewarding when challenges are overcome and fears are conquered.
Students have incredible opportunities to visit different countries, and have previously visited Italy, Iceland and Morocco to experience skiing and hiking.
Sport plays a huge part in life at NCW. We are lucky to have forged great links with local national sports teams such as Worcester Warriors Rugby Team, Kidderminster Harriers Football Team and The Old Elizabethans VI Cricket Team. These links provide much opportunity for students to play competitive sport, become part of a community team and learn from professionals.
Daily fun and fitness...
For every day of the week, there is an activity on offer for the varying interests amongst students.
When the school day is finished, students are encouraged to get involved in something they enjoy or haven’t tried before.
This could be visiting the local climbing wall, judo, goalball, swimming, jazz band or musical theatre.
Individual requirements are also accommodated – such as horse riding lessons, Scouts or Youth Theatre.
The fun doesn’t just stop at weekdays – the weekends are also filled with activities and outings for our students to enjoy.
These are made up of a combination of on and off campus, and include rifle-shooting, paddleboarding, canoeing and ice skating.
Students also enjoy trips to the local cinema, bowling, experiencing bushcraft skills and visiting the Rugby or Basketball when there is a game!
Rest and relaxation...
As part our extra-curricular programme, our young people also have the opportunity to undertake recreation activities which aim to promote positive wellbeing.
These include mindful arts and crafts, jewellery making, board games, sewing, walks around the local countryside, and even Scrabble club!
We aim to provide a mix of activities that allow students to take talents they have shown in the classroom further as well as explore something that is ‘out of the ordinary’ and far removed from what they will learn during the main school day.
